Equipped with the latest MediaTek Dimensity 900 Chip, a 64M Triple AI Camera, and a 6.4" 90hz AMOLED Display: OnePlus Nord CE 2 is definitely a little more than you'd expect for £299. OnePlus have released the CE 2 in a duo of colour variants, each with a unique identity. Bahama Blue gives 'a smooth, reflective finish that's cool and blue like a Caribbean vacation' and Grey Mirror delivers 'a smooth and shiny luxurious finish you can see yourself loving'. OnePlus couldn't be closer to the truth with these descriptions as the Grey Mirror we review here, truly lives up to its name.
Whilst many of the features of the Nord CE 2 have been carried over from the original OnePlus Nord CE, the two biggest changes have been the main talking points of the Nord CE 2. The fast charging speeds have more than doubled on the Nord CE 2, compared to the first Nord. As well as this it also supports reverse charging which is the wireless charging of two devices when placed back to back, which utilises the same technology as normal wireless charging pads. OnePlus claims the new 65W fast charging on the Nord CE 2 can power it from 0-100% in just 32 minutes which is the same time it takes to get the Nord CE to 70%.
As well as super-fast charging, there are also two big display upgrades, the first being HDR10+. This has given the already brilliant display a more punchy, dynamic image for a truly immersive viewing experience. The second is the addition of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 which can withstand 1.2m drops onto hard, rough surfaces.
The team here at C247 were lucky enough to get our hands on the CE 2 early and we decided to put it through its paces by using it as our vlogging camera for our MWC Barcelona 2022 coverage. During this amazing event, we covered everything new in the world of tech, like the OnePlus 10 Pro's very own fisheye lens. We put the device through some vigorous handling: filming with it, dropping it, doing interviews, and not once did the device ever feel like it was struggling. Its performance was always snappy, the 90hz display made general usage a dream and the camera quality was… well have a look at some of our MWC videos and let us know what you think. The battery life from constant filming tended to last us 6 whole hours and the fast charging had us back and ready to film again in little to no time at all!
All in all, the OnePlusNord CE 2 is definitely 2022's mid-range killer so far and competitors such as the Galaxy A53 are going to have to pull out a lot of stops in order to top it.
