Is the CAT S75 really the world's most rugged smartphone?

What does it mean for a smartphone to be truly rugged? The CAT S75 not only meets but exceeds the highest military grade standards, boasting pocket-friendly dimensions and Bullit's brand-new satellite messaging connectivity. This is a phone that redefines the concept of ruggedness.

Design
The CAT S75 has a rugged design that is made to withstand the elements. It’s constructed using a perfect combination of durable plastic and aluminium housed inside a metal frame. In addition, the CAT S75 features corning gorilla glass on the front of its display, and it has a rubberised coating that helps to protect it from scratches and dents. The CAT S75 is also water-resistant, up to 1.8 metres for 30 minutes, and is dust-proof. What’s more, the device is IP68, IP69K, and MIL-SPEC 810H certified, which means it is dustproof, waterproof, and can withstand extreme temperatures and humidity. Hands-on, the CAT S75 holds a nice weighted feel. The 6.6-inch display is fairly easy to navigate single-handedly; however, users which slightly smaller hands may struggle. The rubberised coating on the rear gives the device a unique character in tandem with the textured button side-mounted programmable button that provides a satisfying tactile click in use.

Camera & Specs
A MediaTek Dimensity 930 processor powers the CAT S75 with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The phone has a 6.6-inch FHD+ display, which provides a crystal-clear picture with a 120Hz refresh rate for seamless navigation between apps. Additionally, the CAT S75 has a triple-lens rear camera system with a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor – more than adequate for whatever photography requirements the handset may need. The CAT S75's camera system is capable of taking great photos in a variety of conditions. The primary sensor can capture sharp details, and the ultrawide sensor is perfect for taking landscape shots. The macro sensor is also helpful for taking close-up photos of small objects. The CAT S75 comes with a respectable 5,000mAh battery, providing an extremely long-lasting battery life. At face value, a 5000mAh battery may not seem so impressive compared to many flagships on the market, but when you take into consideration that one single charge will last a user two days (including satellite messaging) and you quickly start to realise why this has been named by many as the best-rugged smartphone ever. Even better yet, the CAT S75 can last around 6-7 days on standby which is outstanding to see out of an Android device. The only caveat is the 2.5-hour charging time, but considering what gets returned from a mere two and a half hours of charging, I’d say patience is a virtue.

Satellite Messaging
One of the most prominent features of the CAT S75 is its satellite connection, which allows you to stay connected even in the most remote places. The CAT S75 is the first phone in its class to offer satellite messaging. While the iPhone 14 series brought satellite messaging to the mass market, it's primarily restricted to SOS functions. But with CAT's Bullit satellite messaging, the CAT S75 steps ahead, enabling accurate two-way text messaging in and out of network coverage or even satellite-to-satellite messaging when both users are out of range. While at first glance, both technologies may appear identical, a closer look reveals that the CAT S75 offers significantly more.

Conclusion
The CAT S75 is a powerhouse of a rugged smartphone designed to thrive in the harshest environments. With its robust specs, impressive battery life, and pioneering satellite messaging feature, it's the perfect partner for those whose lifestyles demand more from their tech.
